WHISPER QUIET GENERATOR PRODUCES HEAT AND POWER
Comfort is key to an enjoyable and relaxing boating experience. Without having to sacrifice the pleasures of home, Mack Boring & Parts Co. offers the WhisperGen Onboard Heat and Power System to make electricity and heat generation unobtrusive.
Unlike traditional marine generators, WhisperGen is extremely quiet with a noise level similar to that of a household refrigerator. Measuring about 14" Wide x 20" Deep x 25" High and weighing only 198 lbs., it fits discreetly on any vessel.
This 12 or 24V diesel-powered generator provides up to 800W DC output to automatically maintain and charge the boat's battery bank. Through an AC inverter, the battery bank powers radio, navigation, lighting and other systems, handling peak appliance demands that may exceed 5kW with ease.
WhisperGen also manages cabin heating and hot water requirements up to 19,000 Btuh. Once a designated room or water temperature is set, WhisperGen's computerized, built-in intelligence automatically turns the generator on and off to maintain heat specifications.
Incorporating an advanced battery management and charging system, it controls charging through a three-stage cycle to maximize battery life.
When experiencing a high electrical load, the battery bank acts as a buffer of electricity, ensuring a continuous supply of power, even when consumption is greater than generation.
Constructed for long-term service, WhisperGen requires little maintenance once installed. This heat and power system sets a new standard for exhaust emissions. Helping keep the sea pollutant-free, WhisperGen's emissions are clean enough to be exhausted above the water line. Extremely efficient, it converts 90% of the fuel supplied into heat and electricity.
Mack Boring & Parts has been an industry-leading supply chain partner for diesel engines, transmissions, generators and related products for over 85 years. The company specializes in power and propulsion system optimization.

NEW ULTRALIGHT MOTOR REVOLUTIONIZES KAYAKING
One of the biggest decisions I make when preparing Marine Industry Podcast is to draw a distinction between stories which are news and stories which are advertising masquerading as news. With this in mind, it is rare that any company gets mentioned too often. But those guys at Torqueedo apparently cannot stop innovating.
In addition to the award winning drive we mentioned last week, they also introduced a type of drive at this year's METS in Amsterdam which might seem unlikely.
With a total weight of 15 lbs., including battery, it's the first viable motor for kayaks on the market.
Completely submersible and IP68-rated, it will operate even when fully submersed. With a simple mounting ball it can be easily mounted onto most rigid hull kayaks.
The propulsive power of the Ultralight 402 is equivalent to a 1 HP gas outboard. Depending on the type of kayak, it reaches a max speed between 5.0-6.5 mph for about half an hour. At slow speed, the Ultralight 402 can drive a kayak for a range of 12-15 miles.
Its impressive speed and range are due to the latest technologies employed in the batteries and drivetrain. The high-efficiency drivetrain converts 50% of stored battery power into propulsive power, measured after all losses including propeller losses. The equivalent value for trolling motors amounts to some 20% while internal combustion outboards have even smaller overall efficiencies.
An integrated board computer combines information from the motor, batteries and a built-in GPS. The kayaker has battery charge, speed and remaining range at current speed always under control.
The Ultralight 402 is the perfect choice for kayak anglers, family kayakers and sea kayakers. It allows for trolling, provides additional range, gives support against local currents and is helpful when kayaking with friends and family, who may prefer the convenience of an outboard.
Each Ultralight 402 comes with a motor mount, motor unit, lithium-manganese battery and remote throttle control with integrated board computer and magnetic on/off switch.
2009 POWERBOAT P1 CALENDAR ANNOUNCED
The Powerboat P1 World Championship announced its provisional calendar for the 2009 season, with a host of new venues joining some returning favorites. New race hosts Bahrain, Turkey, Sweden and possibly Ireland, will line up alongside well-established venues Malta, Portugal, Spain and Italy in what is planned as an expanded seven-round schedule.
The season starts in Bahrain in the Middle East in late March, with a six-week break before the second race in Malta, which will celebrate its sixth anniversary on the Powerboat P1 calendar.
Turkey, as a new addition, takes a mid-June slot and adds to the Powerboat P1 World Championship's expanding mix of countries. The championship then returns to Portugal in early July.
Sweden becomes another exciting new host nation as the Powerboat P1 series visits Scandinavia for the first time in August, while either Ireland, another new venue, or Spain, which hosted a highly successful first-ever event in 2008, will host the penultimate round of the season.
Italy, the country which launched the 2008 Powerboat P1 campaign, takes a new slot in the calendar as the season-finale in September.
Greece and France have been allocated slots as reserve venues with more information to follow as the season gears up for the New Year.
